Daniel’s Hill Spring Dinner.
The Daniel’s Hill Society will hold it’s Spring Dinner at the Joseph
Nichols Tavern on 5th Street on Saturday, May 4th. Our very own Jim
Scow will give a presentation on “The Missing Buildings of Daniel’s
Hill.” This will be the same presentation he gave to the Lynchburg
Historical Foundation. However, we will give him more time which should
mean he’ll be able to give us even more information!
The dinner will once again be catered by Jason Nagel who served a
delicious meal last year. We will begin at 5:00 pm with a time to
socialize. Dinner will served at 6:00 pm and Mr. Scow’s presentation
will begin at 7:00 pm. We will be done by 8:00 pm.
Bill Holt, owner of the Joseph Nichols Tavern has once again loaned out
his property to the society and we want to thank him for his
generosity. This year we are hoping to be able to take advantage of his
beautiful garden for the socializing part of the dinner from 5:00 to
6:00 pm. It’s worth the price of the ticket just to get to see this
beautiful historical tavern where Thomas Jefferson used to stay.
Since this is the society’s major fundraiser, tickets are $25 a piece.
With the quality of the venue, meal and presentation, this is one of the
best bargains in Lynchburg. For tickets or questions, please call
Tucker Cole at 434-845-2657.
Adopt-A-Street Cleanup Day
The Daniel’s Hill Society will be
conducting a neighborhood cleanup this Saturday, March 9th. Anyone
wishing to participate is asked to meet at 412 Cabell Street to pick up
supplies. Tucker will issue yellow vests, gloves, bags and litter
pickup sticks. Chris Hamilton will guide the clean-up crew and the area
to be cleaned is the D Street Bridge and adjoining blocks. This
shouldn’t take more than an hour or two, so please come out and join
your neighbors to help.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who brought a dish, as it was truly
fantastic! Below are a few pictures that shows a few of the 28 people
in attendance. We had a good mixture of new people or regulars that
showed up from all over Daniel’s Hill. The remainder of this newsletter
will touch on some of the things we discussed in the meeting.
