Daniel’s Hill Second Annual Spring Dinner. The Daniel’s Hill Society will hold it’s Second Annual Spring Dinner at the historic Joseph Nichols Tavern on 5th Street and Madison Avenue on Saturday, May 4th. We have had one change since the announcement in the last newsletter, and that is that Jim Scow will not be giving a presentation. We hope to reschedule that presentation at a future date. The dinner will once again be catered by Jason “Chef Hollywood” Nagel who has catered movies and events serving celebrities including Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Priscilla Presley, The Charlie Daniel’s Band, Lee Majors, The Little River Band, James Franco, Whoopie Goldberg, Sam Shepard and you if you buy a ticket to our own special event. We will begin at 5:00 pm with a time to socialize. Dinner will served at 6:00 pm and a fun event time will begin at 7:00 pm. We will be done by 8:00 pm. See below for the menu. Bill Holt, owner of the Jos eph Nichols Tavern has once again loaned out his property to the society and we want to thank him for his generosity. This year we are planning to take advantage of his beautiful garden for the socializing part of the dinner from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. The tavern will be decorated in colonial fashion with music from Colonial Williamsburg playing in the background. It’s worth the price of the ticket just to get to see this beautiful historical tavern where it is believed Thomas Jefferson used to stay. Since this is the society’s major fundraiser, tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. With the quality of the venue and meal, this is one of the best bargains in Lynchburg. For tickets or questions, please call Tucker Cole at 434-845-2657. Menu (Buffet Style) Classic Tossed Salad Slow Smoked Pulled Pork with Blackberry BBQ Herb Crusted Chicken Spring Squash Medley Garlic and Parmesan Roasted Potatoes Sweet Tea, Water, Coffee Dessert will be a variety of home-baked treats prepared by Becky Cole Daniel’s Hill Society on Instagram! On Sunday afternoon March 24th, the Daniel’s Hill Society conducted a clean-up along the D Street Bridge and Norwood and Cabell Streets between B and E Street. March Business Meeting The March Business Meeting was called into order at 7am by Clair Brown, Vice-President of the Daniel’s Hill Society. Four people were in attendance at 412 Cabell Street, where Chris Hamilton has opened the ballroom of his rental house for the society to hold its meetings. After the reading of the Secretary’s and Treasure’s Report we proceeded onto old business and discussed plans for the upcoming Spring Dinner to be held toward on May 4th. We finalized plans for the Adopt-A-Street cleanup day to be held on Saturday, March 9th at 10:00 am. We also talk about properties in the neighborhood which needed special attention as we work to make Daniel’s Hill a better place for everyone to live. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm. Claire Brown needs volunteers for the committee to provide a welcoming gift and information for new families. Some people may need help on a temporary basis with a lawn, or some other need where we can be of assistance, such as a ride to the hospital. If you’d like to help, we hope to see you at the meeting, or let us know by emailing danielshilleditor@yahoo.com. |
